In dieser Untersuchung wird an einem der Protagonisten des Sozialen Protestantismus, Johannes Herz, evangelisch-soziales Handeln im 20. Jhd. exemplarisch dargestellt. Dabei werden die typisch evangelisch-sozialen Arbeitsfelder im Vereinsprotestantismus, ESK und SESV, beleuchtet. Darüber hinaus werden Handlungsfelder in den Blick genommen, in die Herz seine evangelisch-soziale Prägung hineingetragen hat, wie der Neuaufbau der Ev.-luth. Landeskirche Sachsens nach beiden Weltkriegen, seine Tätigkeit in den Entscheidungsgremien der DEK, das Verhalten in der NS-Diktatur sowie der Diktatur des Proletariats und sein Wirken als Pfarrer in den sächsischen Großstädten Chemnitz und Leipzig. §Grundlage der Untersuchung sind Quellen aus sächsischen Archiven, die zum Teil erstmals gesichtet und ausgewertet wurden. §This analysis of Johannes Herz, one of the leading protagonists of social Protestantism, will provide an example of the Protestant-social movement in the 20th century. Special attention will be given to the typically Protestant-social work fields of the associations ESK and SESV. Furthermore, a closer look will be given to the areas which Herz helped to form through his protestant-social character, such as the new construction of the Ev.-luth. Landeskirche Sachsens after each of the world wars, his activity in the decisive committees of the DEK, his behavior in the Nazi dictatorship as well as that of the proletariat, and his work as a pastor in Chemnitz and Leipzig in Saxony. Sources from the Saxon archives were used for this study, some of which were seen and evaluated for the first time.
