Democracy is a Machiavellian piece of work. In 1689, in England, private bankers financed the first elected parliament. Betting on a human foible, whereby the representatives would want to do things before taxes were collected, they immediately created the Bank of England, a monopoly designed to make loans to the Government and control the country's money supply. If, after financing the American War of Independence in 1775, Mayer Amschel Rothschild backed the English banking model proposed by Alexander Hamilton, one needn't wonder why. Moreover, because democracy is a political system that makes credit available to all, it must, by the same token, create jobs in order to have the loans repaid, and that's why it's been a win-win formula for both bankers and ordinary folk for over three hundred years.
