Opis

Instants encompasses a new film by the Swiss artist Hannes Schüpbach and a literary text by the French archeologist and writer Joël-Claude Meffre. The artistic project and the publication that was created for it, with an essay by Marco Baschera ("Thinking in Images"), are devoted to a central point of convergence of the arts: the INSTANT. In photography, film, or literature, the instant in its "entrance" or "descent" signifies a performative opening in the sequence of time that radically breaks through any concept of linearity. Hannes Schüpbach first became known in the 1990s for his painting suites experienced in motion. Most recently, his work has mainly involved 16mm silent films that are shown in museums as well as at major film festivals. Joël-Claude Meffre is concerned, in his texts, with biographical and fictional aspects of memory. Marco Baschera is Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Zurich. His research interests include the implications of multilingualism. Le projet artistique et la publication qui l'accompagne, associée ŕ un texte de Marco Baschera (« Penser en images »), sont consacrés ŕ un point de convergence central des arts : l'instant. Lorsque l'instant « s'introduit » ou « se manifeste » dans la photographie, dans le film ou dans la littérature, son apparition marque une ouverture « performative » dans le cours du temps, qui vient rompre toute idée de linéarité. Hannes Schüpbach s'est fait connaître dans les années 1990 avec ses suites peintes, qui entraînent le visiteur dans un mouvement puis se déploient dans sa mémoire. Son oeuvre récente est constituée principalement de films 16mm silencieux, présentés dans les musées et dans des festivals de films renommés. Les textes de Joël-Claude Meffre sont centrés sur les aspects biographiques et fictionnels de la mémoire. Marco Baschera est professeur de littérature comparée ŕ l'Université de Zurich.
