For generations, the Jews of Ethiopia nurtured an ancient longing, the dream of returning home to the Promised Land. At the end of the 1970s, thousands of Jews throughout Ethiopia left their villages and marched hundreds of kilometers towards the Sudanese border. It was a journey full of hardship and suffering, endured by men, women, children, and the elderly. In addition to the difficult conditions, the Jews of Ethiopia suffered threats to their safety and their lives, encountering ruthless rapists, thieves and murderers on the long journey. When these courageous people finally arrived in Sudan, they were penniless refugees, placed in refugee camps in terrible conditions. Many died, as flowers wilting in the sun. The Journey to Jerusalem describes the unbearable hardships, yet also reveals a tireless heroism. A first-person autobiographical account, this is the testimony of a cross-country journey on foot, of a year spent in a refugee camp, and the miracle of survival that brought the author to Israel. Avraham Adgah arrived in Israel from Ethiopia in 1984, and works as a building project manager at the Technion Institute of Technology in Haifa. He is married with 4 children. This is Avraham's third book.
