"Your account of the effect which the result of the election at Corpus has had on the school I have read with deep concern. It is too painful to dwell upon, and hopeless thoroughly to explain. All I will say upon it is that I am inclined to attribute very much of it to a faulty but long-established mode of examination, and to an erroneous judgement, rather than to any intentional want of principles.
