A vacation home rental allows us to briefly become "locals" rather than tourists. We tend to slow down our pace and experience more of the lifestyles of our destination. A vacation rental is a good base for exploring the immediate area, venturing forth on entertaining and educational day trips knowing we will be returning to the luxury and privacy of "home" at night. Invariably, we meet interesting people in neighborhood markets and sidewalk cafes that we might not encounter in a traditional hotel setting and some of these acquaintances become friends. One of the greatest pleasures about travel writing is the opportunity to share travel discoveries and unique travel experiences.
