Julia Glynn is the very model of a bourgeois Catholic wife, a regular Mass-goer and president of her local charitable society, she is married to the richest man in town. Her husband suffers from a crippling illness and is tended to by his manservant Stephen and his handsome nephew Jim. Intrigue ensues when Julia receives obscene anonymous letters about her infidelities with Jim, and suspects Stephen of sending them.
