Opis

Dillmanns "Chrestomathia Aethiopica" (1866) wurde das klassische Textbuch des Altäthiopischen (Gecez) im akademischen Unterricht. Die Chrestomathie bietet einen Querschnitt durch einen bedeutenden Teil der äthiopischen Literatur. Die "Notes bibliographiques" (zur Chrestomathie) von Jean Simon bilden eine wertvolle Ergänzung und Erläuterung zu Dillmanns Texten, die durch diese "Notes" textkritisch und literarisch erschlossen werden. Die Tatsache, daß die Dillmannsche Chrestomathie durch historische Texte angereichert werden müßte, hat den früh verstorbenen Johannes Bachmann (1862-94) veranlaßt, mit seinen "Aethiopischen Lesestücken" die Geschichte zu Wort kommen zu lassen. Zum Verständnis von zweien dieser Lesestücke hat Ignazio Guidi verschiedene Anregungen und Hilfen in der "Zeitschrift für Assyriologie" 11 (1897) gegeben. Die in diesem Band vereinigten Arbeiten bilden die Grundausstattung für das Studium des Äthiopischen. Wer das hier gebotene Material durchgearbeitet hat, ist für die weitere Arbeit in der äthiopischen Literatur bestens gerüstet. Ein Nachwort von Ernst Hammerschmidt bringt verschiedene Hinweise und Ergänzungen bis zur Gegenwart. Dillmann's "Chrestomathia Aethiopica"(1866), which became the classical text for the academic teaching of Old Ethiopian (Gecez), presents a cross-section of the most important part of Ethiopian literature. It is supplemented and elucidated by Jean Simon's "Notes bibliographiques" which provide valuable textual criticism and literary historical information. A recognition that Dillmann's Chrestomathia could be enriched by the inclusion of historical texts led Johannes Bachmann (1862-94) to devote part of his short life to collecting the "Aethiopische Lesestücke". These complement Dillmann's work by bringing in the historical dimension. Ignazio Guidi made a number of helpful suggestions toward the understanding of the "Lesestücke" in the "Zeitschrift für Assyriologie" no. 11 (1897).x1 The writings in this volume thus form a solid basis for the study of Ethiopian. Anyone who works their way through this material will be optimally prepared for further work in Ethiopian literature. An afterword by Ernst Hammerschmidt brings various references and additions up to date.
