Under Amedeo VIII the collection in the library of the Savoia house was considerably enriched and took a precise physiognomy. The acquisitions of manuscripts were vastly greater and reflect the assured literary and figurative tastes of the new count (later Duke) of Savoia, who was more aware than his predecessors of the importance of a rich library as an instrument of power and political prestige and, who wished to compete with other European princes. It is not by accident that the greater part of codices surviving from the old Sabauda library leads us to his purchases. This volume offers a complete description of the purchases and commissions made by Amedeo VIII while two chapters are dedicated to the activity of his two most important miniaturists: Jean Bapteur and P, ronet Lamy. Furthermore some of the surviving manuscripts are closely analysed, given consideration to their state of conservation, provenance and the iconography of the miniatures. Text in Italian.
