Ausgehend von skizzenhaften Linien und freien Assoziationen, von Texturen und optischen Dissonanzen, schafft der US-amerikanische Maler Jeff Elrod (geb. 1966) komplex austarierte Kompositionen auf der Leinwand. Seiner Ausstellung in der Galerie Max Hetzler in Paris gibt er den Titel ESP, ein Begriff für außersinnliche Wahrnehmung. Elrod sagt dazu: Ganz ernst ist es nicht gemeint, aber ESP hat auf jeden Fall etwas damit zu tun, wie wir Kunst wahrnehmen. Die vorliegende Publikation ist eine Dokumentation der Ausstellung und versammelt die Bildeindrücke der Werke an der Wand wie in einer Skizzenmappe, eingebunden in zwei Fotografien aus dem Schaffensprozess des Künstlers. Das großzügige Folioformat macht dabei jedes Detail gut sichtbar und bietet vielleicht auch den Raum für die außersinnliche Wahrnehmung. Starting from quickly sketched lines and free associations, from textures and optical dissonances, US painter Jeff Elrod (born 1966) finely balances his complex compositions on the canvas. His exhibition at Galerie Max Hetzler in Paris was titled ESP, a form of perception with some resonance for the artist: Im not like super-serious about it, but I do think ESP connects to our experience of art. This book is a document of the exhibition, collecting images of the paintings as they were hung on the wall in a portfolio, bound between two photographs taken during the creative process. The large-sized images give ample room for each detail, and maybe beyond that some space for extrasensory perception.
