Anarchist settlement

Patrick Orsdnik returns to paint a stark portrait of European society in the mid-19th century, revealing its intellectual fragmentation, pluralism, and departure from all norms. This novel comprises a collection of letters from an Italian anarchist to his former noblewoman lover. He has decided to emigrate to Brazil, rejecting all forms of European societal development during the 19th century, from the Enlightenment to social reform and the communist revolution. He has also contributed to distributing the emigration manifesto calling for the establishment of a free colony in Brazil. Thus begins his journey to this dream colony. Returning to 1855, he recalls all the bleak and joyous events he experienced aboard the ship, and how he interacted with a diverse group of people from various nationalities, striving to find a way to communicate and establish the foundations of their new community both before and after their arrival. This collection of literary letters offers a scathing critique of European society and its traditions, conveyed by Orsdnik, one of the most important Czech writers of our time.
