Midwife's Escape

A nineteenth-century midwife on the run from those who hope to control her powers must put her broken trust in her handsome traveling companion. Born with a rare gift for granting wishes with her healing touch, China Deliverance Creed's destiny is either to be cherished or exploited. With her beloved mother gone and still reeling from her former fiance's betrayal, China travels by train with Mr. Royce Cooper, uncertain that she believes his words of love, or his promise to help her escape the clutches of family hoping to profit from her gift. Then China discovers her dastardly Destrehan cousins are on the train, too. Worse, they're holding her beloved mentor, Mrs. Jesse Settle, hostage, believing they can blackmail China into their service. China will do anything to protect the Cherokee midwife who is so dear to her, even if it means being forced to trust Royce Cooper. With Jesse in tow, she hatches a plan to escape the train. And once on the road under Royce's protection, China will discover if he's a man she can trust with her life and her heart. Until then, the future holds many hurdles including an expectant mother who needs China's care and may be carrying China's perilous family legacy.
