Mission: Butterfly

In 2039, the world is burning. Three time travelers go back to the 1960s with a mandate and a doctrine: no Big Moves. Only butterfly breaths.Helene, who believes patriarchy killed the planet. Hieu, certain that colonial manipulation kept the developing world from fighting back. Zack, who believes oligarchic greed is the engine that drove humanity off the cliff. Each carries the righteousness of someone who has read the history and knows exactly who to blame. They are all wrong.Their targets die, disappear, or prove far more complicated than the briefing files suggested. And the people who actually matter — Waylene, Annie, Nguyet, Yvonne — are women they weren't looking for, carrying wisdom they didn't expect, building power in ways that don't fit the playbook. From the Freedom Riders of Birmingham to the Alcatraz occupation, from Buddhist monasteries in Vietnam to the pipeline fights of Alaska, Mission: Butterfly follows three would-be saviors as they discover that you cannot save the world by being right. That the people you came to rescue don't need your rescue. And that the smallest breath — placed with patience, humility, and love — can move more than the grandest revolution.A novel for anyone who has ever felt powerless in the face of what's coming, and wondered whether one person can still make a difference.
