Anthropology studies other cultures, but the anthropologist always comes from somewhere. Every ethnographic account is shaped by who produced it, where they came from, and what frameworks they brought with them. This book examines what that means for the knowledge anthropology claims to produce.

30 For 30 TOK: IB Social and Cultural Anthropology is the twelfth book in the 30 For 30 TOK series, which pairs thirty IB diploma subjects with thirty searching questions about the nature of the knowledge it produces. This volume focuses on the IB Social and Cultural Anthropology course, asking questions about ethnographic method, cultural relativism, the colonial history of the discipline, and the ethics of representing other cultures.

From the limits of participant observation to the crisis of representation, from the question of whether cultural relativism is a methodological principle or a moral stance to the challenge of decolonising a discipline built on colonial relationships, the thirty questions in this book press on what anthropological knowledge is and how it is produced.
