In Behind Closed Doors, Candace Morrisseau shares her life from inside the struggle. As an Anishinaabe woman, mother and professional, she learns how to keep functioning while hiding the growing chaos of alcohol, OxyContin and crack addiction. Behind the missed calls, broken promises and explanations that no longer make sense, her thoughts, relationships and sense of self begin to change.

Candace tells her story with honesty, humour and accountability. She does not excuse the pain her addiction caused, nor does she allow addiction to erase the person underneath it. From motherhood and family relationships to terrifying nights, treatment, relapse and the slow work of becoming teachable, she reveals what loved ones often cannot see.
