Communing with the God of Glory

Jonathan Edwards stood at the crossroads of two worlds. Formed by the rich theological heritage of Puritanism, Edwards embodied a vision for Christian spirituality that helped shape the burgeoning evangelical movement forged in the fires of the First Great Awakening.

This book traces the spiritual theology of Jonathan Edwards within its historical context as the Puritan habits of the means of grace were adapted in light of new questions of identity raised by modernity. Through the genius of Edwards's theological and spiritual writings, this study examines how the means of grace function within the broader scope of Edwards's understanding of beauty, holiness, and the triune life of God. By exploring Edwards's vision of divine beauty and its implications for Christian formation, this study invites readers to recover a spirituality centered on participation in the life and love of the triune God. Edwards offers a compelling vision that remains urgently relevant today, extending an invitation to behold and commune with the God of glory.
