Volume two of John Constable's Correspondence extends the rich body of letters documenting John Constable's life and development. Building on the foundation of the first volume in this series, this collection provides further insight into the artist's evolving career, his relationships with early friends from East Bergholt and his courtship with and ultimately marriage to Maria Bicknell. The correspondence reveals the balance between personal commitments and professional ambitions, illustrating how Constable navigated the challenges of establishing himself as an artist. At the same time, the letters offer a vivid portrayal of early nineteenth-century English life, making the volume an essential complement to the series. Edited with an introduction and notes by R.B. Beckett.
