Cost & Worth

SOMEONE THAT KNOWS NOTHING TRIED TO TELL ME I WAS LIVING A LIE (FANTASY) AND THIS IS SILLY TO ME WHEN THE CAUSE IS THE EFFECT. It means their view of your reality doesn't match your lived experience. STRANGE ISN'T IT

For readers discovering K.G. Groves for the first time, this based on a true story is an invitation into a world of unforgettable characters, difficult choices, and emotions that stay with you long after the final page.

HE WANTED TO KEEP HIS FAMILY CLOSE. ONE DECISION CHANGED EVERYTHING.

Cost has two things he cannot bear to lose: the music he makes with Doll Baby and the chance to be a father to his son, Worth.

When Worth's mother becomes frightened by a man who refuses to leave her alone, Cost offers what seems like a simple favor: wait outside her workplace until she reaches her car. He believes he can help keep her safe without changing the life he and Doll Baby are building.

But the evenings stretch. Promises are postponed. Precious belongings vanish, including guitars Cost has carried since childhood. The woman he loves begins to feel herself disappearing from his life. Then an encounter in a parking lot becomes a fight for survival.

Surviving is not the same as getting everything back.

In COST & WORTH, K.G. Groves tells an intimate story of fatherhood, devotion, danger, and the lasting consequences of one deeply human choice. Through shared songs, unfinished plans, a child's guitar lessons, and moments of extraordinary violence, the novella considers what people owe those they love and what happens when different obligations demand the same life.

Inspired by a personal account and fictionalized in its scenes, dialogue, and chronology, this contemporary literary novella is about the difference between the price of something and its worth.

Some losses can be counted. Others remain in the silence where another voice once belonged.
