Delfter Fayence

"Delfter Fayence" is a scholarly and meticulous exploration of the history and artistry of Dutch tin-glazed earthenware, commonly known as Delftware. Authored by the distinguished art historian Dr. Ferrand W. Hudig, this work remains a vital reference for the study of European ceramics. It traces the evolution of the craft from its origins to its height during the 17th and 18th centuries, a period when Delft became the center of a thriving industry that sought to emulate the elegance of Oriental porcelain.

The text provides an in-depth analysis of the technical processes, stylistic transitions, and the various potteries that contributed to the fame of Delft. Hudig examines the cultural and economic factors that fueled the demand for these decorative objects, highlighting the unique blend of Dutch craftsmanship and global artistic influences. From the iconic blue-and-white motifs to multi-colored polychrome designs, the work celebrates the creativity and skill of the master potters. "Delfter Fayence" is an indispensable resource for collectors and historians, offering a comprehensive look at the enduring legacy of one of the most significant ceramic traditions in Western history.
