Development of a Computer for Solids Control

The set objectives of this work is to save rig time by building a computer program to perform routine rig computations: calculations of solids content, the volume of new mud required, the amount of additives, etc. This operation is geared towards enhancing drilling efficiency. The work is therefore geared towards the review of solids control methods, development of analytical equations for solids control and finally, development and validation of a computer program to implement the routines. As a directive towards the above objectives, the different type of drilling fluids was first discussed in chapter two. Each type of drilling fluid has its specific function and type of formation and the depth of hole to be drilled. The accumulation of drilled solids in drilling fluid can retard cuttings transport, reduce rate of penetration and cause lost circulation. Chapter three re-emphasized on testing and treatment of drilling fluid. The various stages and type of solids removal equipment were also highlighted.
