Dinner Gets Silly is a whimsical Australian picture book that blends rhyme, counting, imagination and absurd humour into a playful dinnertime adventure.  The story follows three adventurous cousins whose evening "Roast beef for dinner" quickly spirals into an increasingly imaginative journey involving swimming with turtles in a tropical lagoon, digging alongside wombats for succulent roots, driving to Mars, sleeping beneath a glittering outback sky, hunting with Powerful Owls and soaring with Wedge-Tailed Eagles over Wilpena Pound.

Told through rhythmic couplets and richly illustrated painterly scenes, the book captures the dreamlike logic of childhood imagination, where one playful thought naturally tumbles into the next.  Along the way, readers encounter a parade of iconic Australian animals woven into the story both as characters and as counting elements on each page.  The counting mechanic encourages early numeracy and pattern recognition while remaining fully integrated into the visual storytelling.

The artwork ranges across tropical lagoons, moonlit deserts, spinifex country, star filled outback skies and even the red sands of Mars, combining expressive animal characters and surreal visual comedy.  Recurring motifs - especially the children's striped socks, adventurous energy and wildly imaginative encounters - give the book a strong visual identity.
