Hanna's Room - Secrets Sealed Since 1942

Paris, 2006. During the restoration of a long-neglected apartment building near Parc Monceau, Claire and Ben Moreau uncover something impossible: a sealed second-floor flat hidden behind a wall and untouched since 1942. Inside, time has stopped. Dust-coated furniture sits exactly where it was left. Letters remain tucked in drawers. A violin rests beneath faded lace curtains. On the wall hangs a forgotten painting with potentially enormous value. But the room's true weight lies not in the objects themselves, but in the lives suddenly pressed back into the light.

As Claire begins cataloguing the apartment's contents, she becomes consumed by the mystery of the Jewish family who vanished during Nazi-occupied Paris. What begins as curiosity soon deepens into obsession. Guided by aging witnesses, fragile wartime records, and scattered clues hidden across France, Claire follows a trail stretching from Paris to Lyon, Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, the Basque border crossings, Lisbon, and finally London. Each discovery reveals another layer of secrecy surrounding the Rosen family and the young girl connected to the hidden room.

In alternating timelines between 1936-1945 and 2006, the story traces the lives of Hanna Rosen and the Duval family, whose dangerous promise during the Occupation shaped generations. As anti-Jewish laws tighten and Paris descends into fear, friendships are tested by silence, survival, and impossible choices. Children disappear into hiding networks. Forged papers become lifelines. Ordinary people are forced to decide whether courage is worth the risk.

Meanwhile, in the present day, Claire and Ben find themselves caught between history, morality, and public attention. Lawyers, art dealers, supposed heirs, and media pressure threaten to turn the discovery into spectacle. The question becomes increasingly urgent: who has the right to own the past? The people who uncover it, the institutions that preserve it, or the survivors who lived through it?

At its heart, this is a story about memory, stewardship, and the fragile line between preservation and intrusion. The sealed apartment becomes more than a historical discovery. It is a living wound, carrying echoes of wartime Paris, hidden acts of resistance, and promises kept across six decades. As Claire moves closer to the truth, she must confront how far she is willing to go in pursuit of history, and whether some stories were preserved not to be exposed, but protected.

Spanning 1936 to 2006, this historical mystery blends suspense, emotional discovery, and the lingering shadows of occupied Paris into a deeply human story about survival, loss, and the responsibility of remembrance.
