In 1995, carpenter Tom Green pins a letter to Snowball Falls' North Wind tree, never expecting an answer. He's grieving, isolated, and certain his life has narrowed to work, silence, and getting through one more winter.

In 2026, archivist Marian Clay discovers Tom's note in a water-damaged box of old North Wind letters. When she writes back, she begins an impossible correspondence with a man living thirty years in the past.

But the more Marian learns about Tom, the more she realises history may not have told the truth about what became of him.
