"When I think of the cityscape of Maastricht, I picture the high-rises of Tehran overlayed. The houses huddling up the hill in Kabul, the Shah Do Shamshirha mosque and the fly-over in Dasht-e Barchi."
A new poetry collection by Martine van Bijlert about layered cities and countries lost. Released as a limited, pre-publication edition for the exhibition 'Legends of the City' at ARTCafe Maastricht which runs from 16 October to 4 December 2026.
Martine van Bijlert is a mixed media poet, artist and researcher who grew up in Iran, now lives in the Netherlands and, in between, worked as an aid worker, researcher and diplomat, mostly in Afghanistan.
