Preliminary Phytochemical & Pharmacological Studies

Use of plants in curing various ailments is well known since time immemorial. With the advent of modern medicines human started isolating the active components and used them as such or made more effective analogy for therapy. Crude extracts based traditional medicine on the other hand has better compatibility with the human body with minimal side effect. Various medicinal plants are also effective against oral problems, which are increasing and there is lack of public understanding about the oral health. In view of these considerations and increasing necessity, importance of the medicinal plants for human welfare & on the basis of Ethnobotanical information, present work of phytochemistry and antibacterial activity of Psidium guajava and Solanum xanthocarpum has been taken up. The selected plants showed promising results against staphylococcus albus and Nocardia corinebacteriodes. This book therefore provides information to botanist, pharmacist, and practitioner of Ayurvedas as well as people who want to opt for herbal or crude plants material which provides complete oral health care.
