Procopius Caesariensis Quatenus Imitatus Sit Thucydidem

Procopius Caesariensis Quatenus Imitatus Sit Thucydidem, written in Latin by Hermann Braun and published in 1885, explores the extent to which the Byzantine historian Procopius of Caesarea imitated the style and methods of the ancient Greek historian Thucydides. This scholarly work delves into the literary techniques and historical perspectives employed by both Procopius, known for his accounts of the reign of Emperor Justinian I, and Thucydides, famed for his history of the Peloponnesian War.

Braun's analysis offers valuable insights into the classical influences shaping Byzantine historical writing. By examining Procopius's narrative structure, character portrayals, and treatment of historical events, the book illuminates the connections between ancient Greek historiography and its later Byzantine adaptation. This study is essential for scholars of classical literature, Byzantine history, and the development of historical writing.
