FUNCTIONAL COMBAT FOR PROTECTION

by Simone Giaquinto

Forget joint locks, mats, and three-minute rounds. In real-world protection, if you stop to "fight," you have already failed: you have exposed your protectee. In twenty-seven years of operational experience-working as an elite protection operative in every conceivable scenario (riot control, nightclub bouncer, private military contractor, bodyguard)-I have realized that the only valid form of combat is one that facilitates exfiltration. The S.O.S. method, which I founded, does not teach you how to win a match; it teaches you how to neutralize a threat in two seconds so you can get your protectee out safely. With S.O.S., you will transform your body into a steel barrier and your hands into ballistic strikers. Every police officer assigned to protection duties, bodyguard, or private military contractor should read this in-depth guide as a follow-up to my manual, *Il Bodyguard Non Convenzionale* (The Unconventional Bodyguard). You are not the center of attention; the protectee is. Your sole mission is to interpose yourself, strike, and vanish. My S.O.S. system was born in the mud of Italian riot police units and the tradition of Italian assault troops, and it was forged in the hostile territories of the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. We do not use complicated techniques because combat stress destroys fine motor skills. We rely on the biomechanics of the sharp, decisive strike, on absorption and containment, and on the mindset of someone who knows that after the blow lands, there must be an escape route-not a referee. Functional combat is the only system that requires you to fight one man while scanning for three others. If you are looking for a martial art, put this book down. If you are looking for an operational system to bring yourself-and your protectee-home alive, keep reading.
