Shadow in the Snow

The S on the side of the Tower only turns red for one reason: somewhere in the world, an animal needs help.

This time it's a young Amur leopard, one of only 223 left on Earth, with a poacher's wire snare biting into her leg and a forest fire rolling towards her valley. The rangers can't reach her. Mum and Dad can't leave the Tower. So fourteen-year-old Angelina and eight-year-old Luna Signer gear up, climb aboard Eli, their talking rescue helicopter, and fly to the frozen forests of the Russian Far East.

They have a checklist, a thermal camera, a blanket, and a red plastic sledge that definitely wasn't on the list. What they don't have, when the ice cracks and the watches die and the fire reaches the ridge, is any way to call for help.

Shadow in the Snow is the first book in S.O.S. Save Our Species, an illustrated adventure series for readers aged 7 to 12 in which two sisters rescue a different endangered animal in every book, and every book ends with a real fact file about the animal and what children can do to help.

Funny, fast and full of heart, with a leopard you'll never forget.
