Stuck in a Moment is a darkly funny collection of recollections about growing up in 1970s suburban Dublin, when dentally challenged teenagers were forced to endure economic hardship, sexual deprivation, religious repression, and ABBA.

Framed through a series of therapy sessions, Dublin-born Adrian Cunningham revisits a childhood and adolescence shaped by a debilitating stammer, eccentric family members, questionable teachers, teenage friendships, first loves and an Ireland struggling to find its place in a rapidly changing world.

From schooldays, family holidays and youthful obsessions to disastrous romantic encounters, brushes with authority and the countless schemes and misadventures that filled the long days before smartphones and social media, Cunningham recalls a childhood when kids were largely left to their own devices-and somehow survived to tell the tale.

Along the way, he encounters an unforgettable cast of family, friends, teachers, priests, bullies and assorted Dublin characters, while trying to navigate the particular indignities of growing up with a stammer in a country where keeping quiet was rarely an option.
