The House That Kept the Dark

Her grandmother left her a house. Something inside it has been waiting for an invitation.

When twenty-eight-year-old Mara Venn moves into her late grandmother's house in the rain-soaked village of Greycombe, she hopes to rebuild her life. Instead, she discovers a strange book-and hears a dead woman's voice calling from behind a door that should not exist.

Mara opens it.

Released after centuries of captivity, an ancient presence begins moving through the house. It borrows familiar voices. It steals memories. Wherever it appears, the air smells of rancid honey and extinguished candles. Outside, the rain carries whispered pleas, and stars vanish from the sky.

Then the witches arrive.

The Covenant of Nine Ashes wants the book returned and the creature imprisoned again. Their plans for Mara are far more disturbing than their promises of protection.

The book has also awakened something in her: magic powerful enough to alter doorways and tear open boundaries. She cannot control it, and using it costs her pieces of her own past.

As Mara uncovers her grandmother's secrets and the truth about the prisoners beyond the threshold, she must find a way to stop the darkness before she forgets who she is-or becomes the next person sacrificed to keep it contained.

The House That Kept the Dark is an atmospheric horror novel for adult readers, blending forbidden magic, psychological dread, and disturbing body horror.
