The Longest Five Minutes

Five minutes does not sound very long-until a warm sugar cookie is waiting for you.

When Calvin bakes cookies with Mom for the very first time, he cannot wait to taste one of their sweet creations. There is only one problem. The cookies have to cool for FIVE WHOLE MINUTES!

Calvin has no idea how long five minutes actually is. So, he counts to five. He sings his ABCs. He marches around the kitchen, blows on the cookies, watches the timer, and tries everything he can think of to make time move faster. But whenever he asks if the cookies are ready, Mom gives him the same answer: "Not yet."

As the seconds slowly tick by, five minutes begins to feel like the longest wait in the world. Will Calvin have enough patience to make it to the end-or will he give up on his favorite treat?

The Longest 5 Minutes is a funny and relatable picture book about time, patience, waiting, and the sweet satisfaction of not giving up. Through Calvin's first baking adventure, young readers will begin to understand the difference between seconds and minutes while learning that waiting can be difficult-but sometimes the best things really are worth the wait.
