This book examines religious institutions as architectures, not to attack faith, but to understand the container that surrounds it. It traces how belief arrives before we are old enough to choose it, how three braided forces keep the gap between performance and interior private, and how the institution installs its judgement so deeply that it eventually speaks in a voice that sounds like your own conscience.

It does not examine God. It does not rank religions or tell you what to believe. It simply asks what these structures do to the people who live inside them.
