Dragon Acres survived TurtleGate.

This should have been good news.

Gerald is still a turtle. Aria is learning. Dwayne has added more guardrails. Toni would simply like everyone to behave themselves.

Naturally, things get worse.

When the residents of Dragon Acres begin asking how the future might be improved, a seemingly reasonable question becomes something much larger. Artificial intelligence, ancient intelligence, microscopic intelligence, and ordinary human intelligence all have opinions-and unfortunately, several of them have access to mathematics.

Soon Dwayne, Toni, Aria, Gerald, Maestro, and one remarkably arrogant bacterium find themselves confronting a problem far more dangerous than a misclassified turtle:

What happens when we become very good at solving the wrong problem?

TurtleGate II: The Root of All Problems takes the absurdity of Dragon Acres into a future filled with optimization, extraordinary technology, beautiful promises, and solutions that work exactly as designed.

That may be the problem.

Behind the turtles, dragons, artificial intelligence, cosmic bureaucracy, and arguments about whether Gerald should be allowed to plead the Fifth is a story about wisdom, responsibility, human flourishing, and the difference between making life better and merely making it more efficient.

Because intelligence can calculate.

Technology can optimize.

Power can change the world.

But none of them can decide what the world ought to become without first answering a much older question:

What is worth preserving?
