Galileo Galilei: (1564-1642), was called before a Catholic Inquisition for supporting the heliocentric views of Copernicus, spending his final years under house arrest: having been forced to recant his statements as Heresy. Religion and science have long been at odds in views, and religion is so steeped in tradition, that it is hard to separate the truth from tradition.
