Rapid population growth, deforestation, urbanization, depleting surface and groundwater resources, along with global warming has led to diminishing water resources worldwide. This books brings together sustainable and advanced technologies for the effective removal of aquatic pollutants, such as toxic heavy metals, micropollutants and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The key focus is on how novel engineered nanomaterials can improve the performance, efficiency, and life of these processes. The book introduces new classes of pollutants, such as endocrine disruptive pollutants and micropollutants. Further, it focuses on the role of various engineered and original nanomaterials in water remediation. The book highlights several aspects of wastewater treatment using low-dimensional, carbon-based materials. A focus on advances in membrane-based separation is also provided, focusing on a pressure driven membrane process. In the case of membrane advances, the focus is exclusively on metal and metal oxide, mixed matrix membranes, GO, and CNT loaded membranes, for targeted pollutant removal. Further, new and upcoming technologies of membrane preparation, via the electrospinning method, and advances in membrane distillation and wastewater remediation are discussed, so that engineers or scientists working in the field will be able to use this as a one-stop solution for their research or reference and in understanding competing technologies. This book includes coverage of recent advances, occurring in sustainable technologies, for wastewater remediation with bio-active nanomaterials, bio-inspired, and bio-templated nanomaterials, which assist the reader in gaining a new perspective for implementing nature-mimicked designs for water treatment and conservation. Cost-effective and eco-friendly biochar for the removal of hazardous materials from industrial effluents are also explored. The book also contains various technologies that may play a pivotal role in the future direction of water treatment.
