This is the last of those five books in which the Swedish artist Carl Larsson (1853-1919) presented his family life between 1895 and 1910. His "Home in the Sun" in the village of Sundborn in the province of Dalarna has been altered considerably over the years, and the children have moved to his second home in the city of Falun for school reasons. Carl Larssons text smells of a humour with a certain resignative accent (especially with regard to his former friend August Strindberg), while the watercolours - partly featuring interiors and exteriors from the Sundborn and the Falun homes as well as from his Stockholm flat, and mostly inhabited with one or more members of his family - are typical of his late lyrical period. Throughout these images are evoking those "good old times" before the 1st World War - and those humble joys in the open as well as at home at the beginning of the full industrialization of life.
