Basevski is a novelist of renown in his own country, having won numerous awards and praise for his work. This is his second collection of poems, a set of thirty-eight pieces linked together through a vein of moral allegory and fable. As the noted British poet Alan Brownjohn points out in his foreword: "A rapid look, to get acquainted, at these poems will show a poet whose work, while often allegorical and fantastic, is almost always clear and simple in manner and message. They have the freshness of a writer new to poetry, but also the sophistication -- and authority -- acquired from working hard to achieve mastery in another form".
