When missionary Gene D. Phillips first sensed God's call to full-time Christian ministry, he seemed an unlikely candidate. As a senior in high school, Gene endured the untimely and devastating loss of his father. This left his family practically penniless and barely able to afford the necessities of life, much less the expensive education required for Gene to become a minister.
