Understanding Psychological Assessment presents a comprehensive overview of the history of psychological assessment and its domains of application. It gives a realistic account of how psychological theory, measurement, and instruments can help the practitioner in understanding, explaining, and predicting a client's problem or question. Using a systematic framework, it also reflects on the history, needs, methods, and consequences of psycho-diagnosis. Using this book as a guide, the practitioners and the students will be able to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the client. The book is divided into four parts. In the first part, assessment is defined and its historical and statistical roots are presented. In the second part, guidelines for assessment in different fields are given, along with a discussion of various models which can be used during assessment. The third part focuses on the discussion of various theoretical approaches to personality, intelligence, and social context. The fourth part explains how the assessor can analyse the quality of psychological theory formation, measurement and psychological tests, and other modes of assessment.
