'Where the Wattle Blooms' encompasses four generations of a Queensland family. A quick fortune from the Gympie gold mines eludes Hugh Cramer when he arrives from Ireland in 1880 but he discovers greater riches in the opportunities of this vital and challenging country and great joy in his choice of a life partner. Narrated by Matt Cramer, grandson of Hugh Cramer and father of Sam, the story follows the sorrows, joys, triumphs and tragedies of the Cramer clan and carries the reader from Matt's early days growing up before World War 2. Then enlisting in the army he fought in the jungles of New Guinea. After the war Matt joins the family import/export business. Business opportunities take him to Japan and the Pacific Northwest of the United States. The story ends with Sam Cramer's marriage in the early 1970s.
