In the 'come-as you are' pavilions, a kind of Kamikaze amusement park, various offerings were designed to satisfy the most violent, voyeuristic, and prurient desires of those who went or were sent there. Much of what actually takes place in the pavilions is revealed in very explicit detail through the eye witness accounts of a courageous journalist from a leading magazine. Other characters that inhabit this tale include supporters and opponents of Mufflan's program, especially the pavilions-these running the gamut from politicians to religious leaders and their followers.
