Art Sinsabaugh is an American artist ripe for rediscovery. This revealing monograph explores how his wide format photographs expose the bond between humankind and the earth, as suggested by his images of wide horizons interspersed by skyscrapers, bridges, silos, and highways. Sinsabaugh studied and later taught at the renowned Institute of Design in Chicago, and in the early 1960s made his mark with a massive 12 X 20-inch "banquet" camera that permitted him to merge a nineteenth-century vision with mid-twentieth century formalism. His landscape photographs depict a tangible sense of place and the transforming visage of the American countryside. Coinciding with this monograph, the Indiana University Art Museum is hosting a major exhibition beginning in October 2004, representing the first complete survey of Sinsabaugh's career, including over eight-five photographs
