Das Buch dokumentiert auf besondere und sehr persönliche Weise das Essen der einfachen Leute, wie auch die feine festliche Küche. Die Rezepte, die der Feinschmecker von heute darin entdecken kann, haben zum Teil ungewöhnliche wie auch reizende Namen - wenn da von den Süßspeisen "Errötendes Mädchen" oder "Wippelfritz-Wackelpeter" die Rede ist, gerät man schon mal ins Schmunzeln.
