Cecile Hummel's works, her elusive places, are located in the diffuse area between photography and drawing. Since the early 1990s the artist has been working in fields of both media, exploring their potentials and balancing her pleasure at documenting reality with her inclination to analyse the depths of her objects. This book does more than merely document the work of an important artist of the present day; it also contributes to the debate on the meaning of photography and drawing as methods of pictorial expression in contemporary art and society. Richly illustrated with a large number of drawings and photos, it includes texts by the art historians Maja Naef, Dorothee Huber and Elisabeth Gerber as well as an interview with the artist by Markus Landert. Cecile Hummel's work of the last 15 years is examined and elucidated from a variety of angles.
