A collection of memories from my 60's Devonshire childhood. Growing up in the shadow of a Man who was 'larger than life'. A man who knew 'everyone' and was known by them? A man who definitely had 'a good innings', then, at the last, prompted the Funeral Director to exclaim, 'Torrington has lost another from it's dwindling band of Characters. We won't see their like again!' What was it like to hear that from someone I'd never met before? Humbling, truly humbling. Ah, some might ask, a cathartic process then? Well, possibly. But if so, I've yet to feel it's soothing balm. An attempt to hang onto him maybe? Certainly. Most definitely in fact. A book that should honestly have been called, 'I love my Dad and miss him more than words can ever tell'? Absolutely!
