Half a century of his story with half a century of history: the autobiography of Kevin James. Kevin James was brought up in a humble home in rural Somerset in the 1950s, the son of a rabbit catcher and a farm labourer's daughter. Despite poor health he soon learned how to fend for himself, making money by cutting grass and doing odd jobs for his wealthier neighbours. As he grew older he had more than his fair share of scrapes in pubs, including one incident involving some angry doormen and a flight of stairs, as well a painful motorcycle accident. In later years he set up an incredibly successful metal fabrication company which allowed him to buy a share in a winning racehorse. In this unconventional autobiography, Kevin James locates the often-hilarious, sometimes-tragic events of his life against the headlines and popular music of the time. Brilliant anecdotes accompany the world news that defined generations and Kevin never forgets a detail of the difficult years he had grown through and the important cultural context they happened in. Diary of a Village Boy is a humorous picture of the last fifty years.
