Mehr als 90 Prozent der gesamten Weltbevölkerung sind mit dem Herpes simplex Virus Typ 1 (HSV-1) infiziert. Für Wirkstofftests sowie für Untersuchungen der Latenz- und Reaktivierungsmechanismen des HSV-1 werden heute noch bevorzugt Tiermodelle eingesetzt. Um Tierversuche zukünftig zu vermeiden, war es Ziel dieser Arbeit, ein in vitro Testsystem zu entwickeln, mit dessen Hilfe die in vivo Bedingungen einer HSV-1 Infektion adäquat simuliert werden können.
