Book synopsis

GIScientists and developers have recently been raving about a spatially enabled world driven by ubiquitous platforms allowing for both professional and widespread lay person use of geoinformation. This spatially enabled world has fostered ? among others ? research concerning aspects of geographical information science such as changes of society driven through application of these systems, specifi cally in the fi elds of visualization and Volunteered Geographic Information, empirical research in lay geoinformation use, and research into educational needs and teaching approaches prompted by the "geospatial world".§The annual Geoinformatics Forum (www.gi-forum.org) symposium held in Salzburg from July 3-6, 2012 therefore linked into these recent research areas. The proceedings contain numerous contributions with an explicit focus on Geoinformation, Geovisualization, Society and Learning and research linking at least two of these dimensions. Thus Geoinformatics Forum continues to be a platform for presentation and discussion of a wide range of GIScience research. Topics of the 2012 proceedings include:§- Geoinformation and Society§- Geovisualization§- Education for Spatial Citizenship§- Teachings Strategies and Learning Environments§- Spatial Analysis§- Geoinformation Technology§The book is aimed at researchers and practitioners in the field of geoinformation with an academic, industrial or educational background.
