This intensely topical book presents the first comprehensive account of UK immigration policy over the last ten years, providing an in-depth analysis of policy and legislation since Tony Blair and New Labour were first elected. The chapters are divided into themes that include analysis of the changes made to managed (economic) migration, asylum, security, and integration policies in the UK. The book argues that migration policy has undergone an intense and innovative transformation during this period, and it addresses the influences on immigration policymaking, as well as on policy ranging from globalization, the European Union, and the law, to politics, the media, and the networks of special interests. It concludes by addressing the challenges that migration policymakers in the UK will be faced with in the future.
