When only eighteen she married M. Casimir Dudevant. It was a mariage de raison and a disastrous failure. Her property of Nohant was in her husband's power, and when the estrangement became final, in 1831, she deter mined, on an allowance of a year, to start a literary career in Paris. There were two children by the marriage for her daughter Madame Dudevant hoped to make a home, and her son was to be sent to school.
